In April we are featuring posts about children and parenting.
One of my all-time favorite public exchanges with two of my children, Josh and Kristen, was during a Father's Day message in 2003. It was an interview format where I asked them a series of "penetrating questions" related to parenting. Their responses may surprise you!
Take a look at this brief excerpt of Josh and Kristen responding to a question about which they would prefer - A. a dad who was "intrusive", or B. a dad who was unaware.
We apologize for the video quality, but this was in 2003, and we didn't yet have HD equipment.
What do you think of their responses? Is this what you would have preferred from your parents? What do your kids prefer from you?
I loved this exchange because it gave them a chance to reflect on a crucial parent-child dynamic. And it gave me great intel on what they found helpful.
As you saw in the response from Kristen, she qualified just how intrusive this was going to be!
At Encompass we're about helping you experience way more positives than negatives in your relationships. And we do that through helping you master relationship skills and tools that take you in that direction. Check out our Family resources for more information. You can even experience a FREE PARENTING ASSESSMENT.
Bottom line: We hope your parent-child relationships feel healthy and fulfilling.
