By: Cindee Johnson Encompass Relationship Coach Some years ago a wristwatch that gives the time in 42 cities around the world sold at auction. This 1939 timepiece garnered more than 6.6 million Swiss francs. That was 4 million US dollars. Can you imagine spending 4 million dollars on a watch? How about 4 thousand? Four hundred? Okay…$40?!? A Timex that costs a relatively few bucks is probably going to keep time nearly as well as that 1939 model, though maybe not in 42 cities around the world. So, why would someone spend that kind of cash on a wristwatch? Obviously, it’s not about keeping time. It’s about investment. A timely investment. The story of this extraordinary purchase got me thinking about how I invest. So, I asked myself—how do I invest in my marriage? In my family? In others? The answers tell a story about my priorities, about what and who I most love. It is the same for you. It is for God, too. His greatest investment is the gift of love He has shown for each of us through His son Jesus. And, He longs for us not to be timid with it.
2 Timothy 1:7 in The Message Bible tells it like this: “God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.” Sure, $4 million may seem like an impressive investment in a timepiece. But that is nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to boldly investing in the gifts God gives us—boldly investing in our marriages, our families, and our other important relationships. I know, you aren’t sure you have the time. That tells a story about your priorities, about what and who you most love. “God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.” 2 Timothy 1:7 If it is time to boldly shift your priorities, if you are ready to make time to lovingly invest in your relationships, Encompass can help.
