Some Day

Some day. When dating and first married, Dave and I could talk long into the night about our hopes and plans for the future. Yet as time marched on, those dreams faded into the background, and some day was replaced by the immediate demands of careers and family and, well, just the challenges of life in general.

It was in the midst of a particularly difficult season, where a rare infection nearly ended my life on earth and an adopted school aged child became a dangerous threat to the basic safety of our family, that Dave and I registered for a RINGS class. 

So there we sat knee to knee one Saturday afternoon nearly 20 years into marriage, our dreams and our spirits worn out, realizing we had not shared a some day with one another in way too many years.

A simple but powerful RINGS chat exercise forced us that day to begin again to hope and plan for our future--some day we will to travel to Maine in the fall just as we did on our honeymoon. Again, both the beauty and the harshness of life kept interrupting that some day dream. But this time, we didn’t lose sight of it. Often, we clung to it. 

​Just last week we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a beautiful fall trip to New England. Our hearts overflow in awe and gratitude for how God has stretched us and blessed us over those years. Some day finally was fulfilled! And, we arrived home excited for the new some day we already are dreaming about. Together.
